Birdem Hospital’s resident doctors suspend sit-in programme
The hospital authorities promise to meet all the demands of the protesting doctors
The resident medical officers (RMOs) at Bangladesh Institute of Research and Rehabilitation in Diabetes, Endocrine and Metabolic Disorders (Birdem) have postponed their sit-in programme following an assurance by the hospital authorities and considering the Covid-19 situations.
The authorities of the Birdem held talks with the protesting RMOs on Monday and promised them to meet all their demands.
Dr Partha Pratim Sen, the spokesperson of RMOs in the Birdem, confirmed the matter to the media on Monday evening.

The RMOs at the hospital said that, according to the organogram, the authorities will issue a circular within next one year – based on the vacant posts – and prioritise the applicants from the RMOs for permanent posts of medical officers.
Under his capacity, the director general of the hospital will bear the costs during hospital admission for the parents of the temporary doctors. Also, he will try to arrange increments according to the tenure of the service for the RMOs, they said.
Moreover, arrangements of sufficient protective equipment and life insurance worth Tk10 lakh was underway, added the RMOs, quoting the authorities.
Dr Partha Pratim Sen said they would closely observe the promises.
"If the promises are broken, Birdem Resident Medical Officers Forum will stage a larger programme," he said.
It is notable that the RMOs in Birdem held a sit-in programme in the last seven days, demanding full payment, safety equipment and job security.
