UNDP, Brac sign MoU to work on social protection
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and BRAC signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance the effectiveness of poverty eradication and make the efforts more impactful to ensure inclusive growth for Bangladesh through effective implementation of the social protection scheme.
Sudipto Mukerjee, resident representative, UNDP Bangladesh, and Asif Saleh, executive director, BRAC, signed the MoU on Sunday on behalf of their respective organisations at the UNDP Office in the capital.
Under this partnership, evidence-based policies and programmes will be designed and a platform created to further strengthen the social protection systems in Bangladesh to make sure no one is left behind.
In his speech, Sudipto Mukerjee said the partnership will assist the government to effectively identify and transfer social protection benefits to people living under extreme poverty. It will also pilot and develop holistic livelihood programmes collaboratively with different ministries of Bangladesh to ensure access to the social safety net programme and help the government in attaining the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.
Asif Saleh said that the partnership will help strengthen the ongoing efforts and design new joint initiatives for social protection and resilience-building as the recovering process from COVID related shocks is ongoing.
