BSF kills another Bangladeshi as BGB-BSF conference is held
“The killings will not increase further” – Indian High Commissioner
During the current month five Bangladeshis have been killed by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) so far, two more have been injured, according to the information of Law and Arbitration Center.
Even one Bangladeshi has been killed at Bangladesh-India (Pillar 1124-5-S) in the no man's land zone when a conference was ongoing between Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and BSF on Tuesday.
To bring the border killing to zero a director general-level border conference between BGB-BSF conference was ongoing at Guwahati, the capital city of Indian State of Assam on Tuesday; while a Bangladeshi man, Khairul Islam, was shot to death by BSF at Gobrakura border of Mymensingh's Haluaghat upazila.

The issue of border killings was also discussed at a virtual meeting of the two prime ministers in the middle of this month. There was a consensus to bring the border killings down to zero.
BGB Director General (DG), Major General, Md Shafeenul Islam, has been leading an 11-member Bangladesh delegation, while his counterpart, BSF DG Rakesh Asthana has been heading a 12-member team.
The conference will conclude with the signing of a Joint Record of Discussions (JRD) on 25 December.
The objective of the border talks is to discuss border-related issues, including the killing of Bangladeshi nationals along the borders, as well as enabling better coordination between border guards of Bangladesh and India.
"The conference will focus on addressing and streamlining mechanisms to jointly curb various trans-border crimes, and on the timely sharing of information between both border forces," said a BGB press release.
Noor Khan Liton, secretary general of the Center for Law and Arbitration, told The Business Standard, "For the past 10 years, the two border guards, even the Prime Minister, have spoken out against the extrajudicial killings; every time we see a kind of promise."
This time the border killing will be brought down to zero, he added.
The new high commissioner of India said, "I am aware of the fact"; then promised to find out a solution to these killings and assured that the killings will not increase further.
