BSTI to implement QR code to ensure logo security
Ordinary consumers to be protected from fraud by illegal BSTI logo users
Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) is set to introduce QR codes to ensure logo security used in the packaging of products.
BSTI Director General (Grade-1), Md Nazrul Anwar discussed the matter during a public hearing at the BSTI headquarters in the capital on Monday, according to a press release.
"Consumers are unable to verify the authenticity of the BSTI logo on the product. But once the QR code is implemented, all BSTI-license-related information will be instantly available via mobile apps," he said.
Ordinary consumers will be protected from fraud by illegal BSTI logo users, said the BSTI director general.
Md Nazrul Anwar said, "We are continuing our journey towards people-friendly and world-class services at BSTI. In order to achieve this goal, 46 new laboratories and 13 regional offices are being set up, while BSTI offices are being instituted in 64 districts."
Various improvement measures are underway, which includes the modernisation of existing laboratories at head office and divisional offices, said Nazrul Anwar.
Chaired by Nazrul Anwar, the event was attended by BSTI Director (Administration), Md Taher Jamil; Director (Metrology), Md Abdul Mannan; Director (Certification Marks), Md Sajjadul Bari; Director (Standards), Nilufa Haque.
Representatives of different business groups, including Unilever Bangladesh Limited, ACI Limited, Marico Bangladesh Limited, Abul Khair Group, among others, participated in the public hearing, it read.
According to company representatives, BSTI's services are being provided quicker than before, according to the Citizen's Charter.
