Businessmen urged to ensure supply of nutritious food
Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition distributed 4,200 face masks among 300 businessmen and customers at New Market in the city
Speakers at a programme stressed the importance of ensuring supply of nutritious foods in the country, saying that it can pave the way for sustainable development.
Businessmen can play a vital role in this regard, they said at a mask distribution programme among businessmen arranged by the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) in the city, said a press release.
The Switzerland-based development organisation has taken up an initiative for distributing masks at different markets in Dhaka city.
It initially distributed 4,200 fabric face masks among 300 businessmen and customers at New Market in the city on Wednesday.
Though the government has made wearing face masks mandatory, the directive is not being followed properly at most of the markets, speakers alleged.
The Unnayan Sangha and ARCED Foundation, in association with the GAIN, have been implementing a year-long project since 24 August to ensure the supply of safe and nutritious foods and smooth market management amid the Covid-19 crisis.
At the mask distribution programme, Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) ward councilor ASM Ferdous Alam called on sellers and customers to follow the health rules amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
DSCC zonal executive director (zone 1) Mohammad Mizanur Rahman, Bangladesh Country Director of GAIN Dr Rudaba Khondker, Portfolio Lead (Large Scale Food Fortification and Value Chain) of GAIN Dr Ashek Mahfuz, among others, attended the programme.
