Hasina faces genocide, crimes against humanity case in ICT
The case has been filed today (14 August) by Md Bulbul Kabir, father of Arif Ahmed Siyam, who was killed during the protest, Bulbul’s lawyer Gazi MH Tamim, confirmed to The Business Standard.
A case has been filed with the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and eight others over alleged genocide, crimes against humanity and murder between 15 July to 5 August during the recent student movement.
Besides, Awami League and associate parties, units have also been sued in the case filed by Md Bulbul Kabir, father of Arif Ahmed Siyam, who was killed during the protest, his lawyer Gazi MH Tamim confirmed to The Business Standard.
An application to this end has been filed today (14 August) to the chief coordinator of the head office of the tribunal's investigation agency in Dhanmondi this afternoon, lawyer Tamim said.
The application has been accepted, he added.
"I have filed the case according to the International Criminal Tribunals Act. The investigative body of the International Criminal Tribunal will investigate the allegations and submit a report to the tribunal," he said.
He said the trial of the case will begin after the report is submitted.
Other accused in the case includes: AL General Secretary and former road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader; former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kaman; former ICT state minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak; former information and broadcasting state minister Mohammad Ali Arafat; former inspector general of police Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun; Former chief of the Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Harun Or Rashid, Former DMP commissioner Habibur Rahman, Former RAB director general Barrister Harun Or Rashid.
Also, charges have been brought against some other ministers, state ministers and parliamentarians of the the recently ousted AL-led government, some RAB officers and members, as well as unnamed armed members of Awami League, Chhatra League and Jubo League;
The complaint alleges that Sheikh Hasina, along with her former ministers and police officials, committed the crime of genocide and crimes against humanity by killing unarmed students protesting against discrimination with local weapons and indiscriminate firing with the intention of completely or partially exterminating them.
