Cattle markets to operate on limited scale: Quader
"The number of the cattle markets will be reduced if necessary"
Obaidul Quader, road transport and bridges minister and also the general secretary of Bangladesh Awami League, has said the markets of sacrificial cattle will be allowed to operate on a limited scale this year.
"The number of the cattle markets will be reduced if necessary," said Quader at a regular briefing from his residence this morning.
He expressed his fear of spreading coronavirus through the cattle markets.
"This year, cattle markets cannot sit on or next to the highways. In order to follow the rules strictly in the cattle market, authorities concerned have to take initiatives in advance," he added.
Regarding the fees of Covid-19 test, the minister said, "If the helpless, poor and working people, who have symptoms of coronavirus, cannot do the test due to the imposed fees, the virus will spread rapidly."
He requested the authorities concerned to make a decision considering the situation of the helpless working class people.
"The government is going to take a decision of imposing lockdown in some other areas considering the high risk of spreading Covid-19 there," said Quader.
He also urged the leaders and workers of Awami League to stand beside the people in the flood-affected areas.
