CDC hosts kite festival for diplomats and expats
US Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and regional partner SAFETYNET in collaboration with Flag Girl hosted an event to celebrate the famous old Dhaka festival, Shakrain Kite Festival on Friday .
The event was organised for diplomats and expat guests to enjoy the festival in a historically important venue Nasiruddin Smriti Bhaban, the home of the first female journalist in Bangladesh Nurjahan Begum, said a press release issued by CDC on Saturday.
During the event, CDC archived short audio interviews with guests on their experiences and lessons learnt during the Covid-19 pandemic.
US Ambassador Earl Robert Miller, the Ambassador of the Republic of Kosovo to Mr Ureya. Deputy Head of Cooperation at the Embassy of Switzerland Corinne Henchoz Pignani, Deputy Head of Mission at Afghanistan Embassy Fawad Ahmad Najimzada, Second Secretary at the Embassy of Sweden Gabriel Hjort, Third Secretary and Vice Consul at the Philippine Embassy Christian Hope V Reyes and Alexander Haeusler, General Manager of Radisson Blu Dhaka along with other diplomats were present during the event.
The guests enjoyed flying kites, traditional live music and different types of fireworks during the event.
The purpose of the invite was to bring a diverse group of foreign expats together to share their Covid experiences and lessons during this pandemic, learn more about their development sector plans and offer them the opportunity to experience Bangladeshi culture and become familiar with the Shakrain traditions in a Covid-safe environment, the release added.
