The Chattogram district administration has banned all types of gatherings and religious events in open places in the district in an effort to curb the spread of Covid-19.
It has also prohibited the attendance of more than 100 guests in all kinds of events organised in clubs, community centres, convention halls, hotels and restaurants.
Chittagong Deputy Commissioner Mominur Rahman made the announcement at the monthly meeting of the District Development Coordination Committee at Chittagong Circuit House.
"Meetings, rallies, milad mahfils, festivals and other religious events at public places will remain banned until further notice. If the instruction is disobeyed, legal action will be taken," he said.
The district administration's mobile court will conduct drives on beaches, parks, recreation centres and other places to ensure hygiene practices including wearing masks. It will also continue distributing free masks to make people aware of the virus.
Bangladesh on Sunday saw a steep rise in Covid-19 daily infection rate as the country recorded 10.29% infection in 24 hours. The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) recorded 2,172 active Covid-19 cases in the country during the time. The number of novel coronavirus cases now stands at 570,878.
Besides, 22 people died from coronavirus in the last 24 hours. The death rate stands at 1.52%. The country's death toll from the virus now stands at 8,690, reads the press release.
