Chattogram Wasa to waive late fees till June
It has been supplying 36 crore litres of water daily
The Chattogram Water and Sewerage Authority (Wasa) has decided to waive late fees for its customers till June.
Chattogram Wasa Managing Director AKM Fazlullah announced the decision on Saturday after inspecting the Sheikh Hasina Water Treatment Plant.
He told reporters that due to the implementation of social distancing to curb the spread of coronavirus, consumers are having difficulty paying bills.
"As a result, an urgent decision had to be taken to waive late fees with the consent of the local government ministry."
He also said that 7 crore litres of excess water are being consumed due to frequent washing of hands and showering amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Fazlullah added that they have taken various health and safety measures for the 300 plus engineers and workers of Chattogram Wasa who stay at the plants to ensure water supply.
"Arrangement of accommodation and food has been made so that no one gets infected by going out," he said, adding the ongoing initiatives will continue to ensure uninterrupted water supply during Ramadan.
Chattogram Wasa has been treating and supplying 36 crore litres of water daily to meet the demand of 42 crore litres of water for the port city residents.
