Children enter Shariatpur park without Tk30 tickets. UNO makes them stand for 1.5 hrs as punishment
In the video, four children are seen standing in the presence of village police and Ansar members while the UNO is seen scolding them
Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Mainuddin allegedly punished five of the children who entered a park with the Tk30 entry tickets by making them stand holding ears for over 1.5 hours on Monday.
A video has surfaced on social media, showing the UNO apparently scolding the children and making them stand holding their ears. The video sparked outrage after it went viral on social media.
Kids aged under 10 were let go after the Tk30 entry fee was taken from them, and five others who were around 13 were kept standing for about one hour and half from 8pm.
When the park was about to close around 9:30pm, they escaped the guards and fled.
However, the UNO has denied any such allegations.
Shariatpur Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Nizam Uddin Ahmed said the matter had not come to his attention. But he has promised an investigation.
After the video made rounds in social media, concerns have been raised about child rights violations and the appropriateness of the punishment.
The guardians of the children and citizens of Shariatpur have condemned the incident.
