ACC launches inquiry against former state minister, three MPs
The ACC official added that Habib faces extensive allegations of corruption and unethical activities through the abuse of power
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has initiated an investigation into allegations of corruption involving former state minister for primary and mass education Zakir Hossain and three former members of parliament.
The members of parliament are Mohammad Habib Hasan of Dhaka-18 constituency, Md Nurul Islam Talukder of Bogra-3, and Mohammad Abdul Wadud of Chapainawabganj-3.
ACC Director General (admin) Md Shahreaj confirmed the matter to The Business Standard on Wednesday (11 September).
According to an ACC official, Zakir Hossain has been accused of acquiring illegal wealth through abuse of power. He has a total of Tk59,890,063 in movable and immovable assets, including investments in various banks and businesses.
During his tenure as state minister, he allegedly misused his position to unlawfully approve the inclusion of 26 schools in the Child Welfare Trust in Kurigram.
Former MP Mohammad Habib Hasan also faces allegations of corruption, unethical activities, and abuse of power, the ACC official added.
He said Habib is accused of illegally accumulating crores of taka, some of which are reportedly held under the names of his wife and family members.
"It is reported that his son Abir Hasan Tanim has a property in the so-called Begum Para in Canada worth CAD1.55 million," Shahreaj added.
Advocate Md Nurul Islam Talukder has been accused of acquiring illegal wealth by misappropriating government project funds, while Abdul Wadud faces similar charges, the official said, adding, the ACC is conducting a thorough investigation into these allegations and will take appropriate action based on the findings.
