They were being questioned over possession of illegal wealth and connection with the alleged Jubo League leader GK Shamim and others, who were arrested in the 'purge operation' last year
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is quizzing two top leaders of Public Works Department (PWD) Contractors' Association as part of its probe into allegations of accumulating wealth out of known income sources.
A team headed by the director of ACC, Syed Iqbal Hossain, has been grilling PWD Contractor's Association President Mushfiqur Rahman Khan Hannan and General Secretary Shahe Alam since Tuesday morning.
ACC spokesman Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya said that they were being questioned over possession of illegal wealth and connection with the alleged Jubo League leader GK Shamim and others, who were arrested in the 'purge operation' last year.
He said the two PWD contractor leaders were summoned on February 20.
Separate letters were sent to them that said, investigation against allegations of embezzlement by contractor GK Shamim and others through bribing hundreds of crores of taka to government officials was underway. For a sound inquiry, it is necessary to record and review the statements of the concerned people.
After the government initiated a crackdown on casinos in September last year, ACC started their own search looking for illegal assets.
So far more than 200 people, including politicians, businessmen, contractors, government officials and employees, are being investigated.
However, the number of officers and employees of the Public Works Department and the National Housing Authority is quite high on the list. ACC has filed 20 cases till now.
