The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has interrogated suspended chief engineer of the Department of Shipping SM Nazmul Huq in connection with corruption allegations in two government projects.
Earlier in 2018, he was suspended after being caught red-handed while receiving a bribe. Following this, he was arrested and later freed on bail.
ACC Deputy Director Md Salahuddin interrogated him for about four hours from 12pm on Thursday, Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya, public relations officer of the anti-corruption watchdog, confirmed the matter to the media.
He was interrogated over the corruption in two projects – Global Maritime Distress and Safety System and the Integrated Maritime Navigation System – of the shipping department, added the ACC official.
The then chief engineer of the shipping department Nazmul Huq in association with some others was involved in anomalies in the projects.
In April 2018, the ACC detained Nazmul from a hotel in the capital's Shegunbagicha area with Tk5 lakh as bribe money.
On the day of his arrest, the commission filed a case against him with Shahbagh Police Station. He was freed on bail after five months of his detention.
On 18 October the same year, Abdul Wadud, an assistant director of ACC and the investigation officer of the case, submitted charge-sheet to the court in the case.
