Door tells the tale
Malek has multiple houses in the capital, 15 kathas of land at Savar, multiple cars and huge amounts of money in various banks. This fancy door is from one of the houses Malek owns
The intricately carved wooden door displaying fine craftsmanship and the wealth and taste of the owner of the apartment is striking both for its beauty and for the secret hiding behind it.
This door leads to the abode of a driver of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Abdul Malek.
One might wonder how a low-level government employee can afford such a luxurious door - one befitting a palace, for his abode, without being involved in corruption and dishonesty.
A palace it is, in the kingdom of corruption by Abdul Malek.
Malek has multiple houses in the capital, 15 kathas of land at Savar, multiple cars and huge amounts of money in various banks. This fancy door is from one of the houses Malek owns.
According to Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) intelligence, Malek is a third-grade employee of DGHS, who joined a health project at Savar in 1982 as a driver. Later, he joined the transport pool of DGHS in 1986.
He is currently the designated driver for the current DGHS Director General (DG) Dr Abul Bashar Mohammad Khurshid Alam and was also the designated driver for Professor Dr AKM Enayet Hossain, director general of Health Education Directorate.
On Sunday, RAB detained Malek on charges of carrying illegal firearm and trading in fake currency.
Later he was placed on 14-day remand in the two cases on Monday.
A Dhaka court granted the remand when police produced him before the court with 14-day remand plea.
