Suspended ACC director Basir denied bail
The court on March 18, 2020, framed charges in the graft case against Basir
A Dhaka court today scrapped a bail plea of suspended director of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Khandaker Enamul Basir in a graft case.
Judge Sheikh Nazmul Alam of Dhaka Special Judge Court-4 passed the order after holding virtual hearing on the plea of the graft-accused ACC official.
The court on March 18, 2020, framed charges in the graft case against Basir and another accused – suspended deputy inspector general (DIG) of police Mizanur Rahman.
Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge KM Imrul Qayes on February 9 accepted the charge sheet and transferred the case for further proceedings to Dhaka Special Judge Court-4.
ACC Director Sheikh Mohammad Fanafilya on January 19 filed the charge sheet against the duo for allegedly leaking information and taking bribe.
The anti-graft body on July 16, 2019, filed the case with its Dhaka district coordination office-1 under the Money Laundering Prevention Act.
Both the officials were suspended from their respective agencies after the allegations of taking and giving bribes were lodged against them.
Mizanur leaked a couple of audio clips, saying he has given Taka 40 lakh as bribe to Khandaker Enamul Basir to suppress the graft allegations brought against him.
