Country faces danger as major parties adamant on election stance: CEC
Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal on Thursday said the stubborn stance of the two major political parties on the next general election is dangerous for the country.
He was talking to reporters after a meeting with a group of local and foreign election observers at the EC Bhabhan.
The CEC said if any major party does not participate in the national elections, the results will be at risk.
He also urged the ruling party to be more active to bring everyone to the election.
However, the CEC hoped that a political compromise on elections could be reached within the next few months.
Among the observers were former prime minister of Nepal Jhala Nath Khanal, social worker, political analyst and International Management Consulting Founder Gbp International in Germany and managing director Volker U. Friedrich, social worker and political analyst and Chairman of HL GROUP in South Korea Park Chun Sung, social worker and political analyst based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia Marietta Arguido Reformado, election analyst and senior lawyer of Supreme Court of Delhi, India Advocate Dr. Gautam Ghosh, founder director of Multicultural Canada Pageant Gipsy Ghosh, president of Global Village Connection of Bhutan Jackson Dukpa, chairman of Election Monitoring Forum Professor Mohammad Abed Ali, Vice Chancellor of DUET and Director Election Monitoring Forum Professor Dr Habibur Rahman, Pro-Vice Chancellor of BUET Professor and Director of Election Monitoring Forum Dr Abdul Jabbar.
