Country’s first digital cattle market launched

The first online platform for selling sacrificial animals, 'Digital Haat' (www.digitalhaat.net) of Bangladesh, with the purpose of curbing coronavirus infection has been launched through an inauguration program.

According to a press release, the inauguration program of 'Digital Haat' was held on Saturday at 12.30 pm on the initiative of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC).

In a joint venture, DNCC, ICT Division, E-Commerce Association of Bangladesh and Bangladesh Dairy Farm Association will implement this 'Digital Haat', the press release said.

Md Tajul Islam, minister for local government and rural development said at the inauguration program, "Selling sacrificial cows through an online platform and processing the meat and delivering it through technical management will help us curb the risk of coronavirus infection."

"This system will also keep the environment of the city beautiful and the leather management in this way will be modern and standardised," he added.

Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim said, "People are at risk of getting coronavirus if they go to the market to buy animals. Farmers and ranchers also need to sell animals at a fair price. The initiative to create an online animal market was taken with that in mind."

State Minister for Information and Communication Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak said, "The e-commerce sector is making great strides due to the preferences of youths. E-commerce is now the center of business and commerce. The Qurbani Haat is no longer out of it."

Shomi Kaiser, President of e-Cab, said, "Sales of sacrificial animals, pricing, meat processing and delivery will be done through a well-planned process and overall supervision to build the confidence of buyers and sellers."

Many members of parliament, senior officials of the government, representatives of business organisations were present at the inauguration program of 'Digital Haat'.
