44 accused in Rangpur arson case denied bail

Rangpur district court has rejected the bail pleas of 44 accused in a case of setting fire to a Hindu village in Thakurpara in Paglapir and sent them to jail.
The accused appeared in front of Judge Soyebur Rahman at the Rangpur Senior Judicial Magistrate Court at noon on Tuesday and sought bail.
On November 5, 2017, Titu Roy, son of the late Khagen Roy of Thakurpara area, posted offensive remarks about the prophet on Facebook.
The next day, a case was filed against him by a local Raju Mia under the Digital Security Act. Then, there were protests and some people burned down houses on November 10.
Two cases were registered at Sadar and Gangachara police stations in this regard and charge sheets were filed against 215 people.
