Attempt to kill Joy: Arrest warrant recalled as Shafik Rehman surrenders before court
After surrendering, Rehman requested for a duplicate of his case documents to file an appeal and pleaded for recalling his arrest warrant
Noted journalist Shafik Rehman surrendered before a Dhaka court today (30 September) in a case filed over an attempt to kidnap and kill former prime minister Sheikh Hasina's son Sajeeb Wazed Joy.
After surrendering, Rehman requested for a duplicate of his case documents to file an appeal and pleaded for recalling his arrest warrant. The court then accepted his plea and postponed his arrest warrant for one year based on his surrender and filing of an appeal.
"Shafik Rehmans's penalty was postponed for one year on 22 September based on the appeal after surrendering before the court. The court has granted his application to postpone his arrest warrant and provide him with the duplicate of his case files. We will file an appeal soon," said Joynul Abedin Mezbah.
On 22 September, Deputy Secretary of Security Services Division of the home ministry Abu Sayed Mollah ordered the postponement of Rehman's arrest for one year following a consultation with law, justice and parliamentary affairs ministry.
