Barrister Sumon placed on two-day remand
The Habiganj court today placed Barrister Syed Sayedul Haque Sumon, a former independent lawmaker, on a two-day remand.
Habiganj Judicial Magistrate Court Judge Kamrul Hasan gave the order this afternoon.
Sub-Inspector Liton Roy, investigating officer of the case, initially sought a ten-day remand.
Barrister Sumon was arrested in a case in connection with an attack on participants of the Anti-discrimination Student Movement on 16 July in Chunarughat upazila.
The complaint, filed on September 11, accused Sumon and nearly 200 others, including 97 named defendants.
Barrister Sumon was arrested on October 22 in Mirpur, Dhaka, and was in custody at Dhaka Central Jail before being transferred to Habiganj District Jail yesterday ahead of the hearing.
Sumon's lawyer, Md Shahidul Islam, said in the hearing that his client was falsely implicated and was not present at the scene on the day of the incident.
