BNP leader Zainul Abedin Farroque acquitted in graft case
Dhaka Divisional Special Judge SM Ziaur Rahman passed the order as the prosecution failed to prove the charges framed against Faruque
A Dhaka court today (26 November) acquitted BNP Chairperson's Adviser Zainul Abedin Farroque from a case filed by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for not submitting wealth statement.
Dhaka Divisional Special Judge SM Ziaur Rahman passed the order as the prosecution failed to prove the charges framed against Farroque.
According to the case documents, the ACC in 1999 issued a notice, asking Zainul Abedin Farroque to submit his wealth statement from 9 July to 22 August of that year. But the former lawmaker failed to submit the statement.
The ACC on 19 January 2000, filed a case against the BNP leader and submitted a chargesheet on 17 June 2001. The court framed charges against him on 23 March 2006, initiating the trial officially.
A total of three witnesses were examined in the trial.
