Casino kingpin Samrat put on 10-day remand
A Dhaka court today placed casino kingpin Ismail Hossain Chowdhury Samrat on a 10-day remand in two separate cases filed under Arms Act and Narcotics Control Act.
Metropolitan Magistrate Md Tofazzal Hossain passed the order when police produced him before the court.
The same court placed Anamul Haque alias Arman, the closest associate of Samrat, on a 5-day remand in the case filed under Narcotics Control ACT, confirmed Sub-Inspector Nizamuddin Fakir, general recording officer of Mohammadpur Police station.
Members of Jubo League and Awami League were seen protesting on the court premises demanding Samrat's release.
On October 6, Rapid Action Battalion arrested Samrat from Cumilla's Chauddagram area for his alleged involvement in running casino business at sports clubs in the capital. Samrat reportedly tried to flee the country through the Cumilla border with India before he was arrested. Arman was arrested along with Samrat from the border.
