Court freezes bank accounts of ex-state minister Sharif, another
Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib passed the order
A Dhaka court today (7 January) ordered to freeze three bank accounts of Awami League leader and former state minister for housing and public works Sharif Ahmed.
Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib passed the order, allowing a plea of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Deputy Director of the anti-graft body Md Nurul Huda filed the plea, stating that the ACC is investigating allegations against Sharif, a former Mymensingh-2 constituency lawmaker. Sharif is accused of accumulating significant illegal wealth in his name and those of his family members. The petition further claims that he is attempting to transfer the assets elsewhere to avoid facing justice.
Meanwhile, the same court also ordered to freeze bank accounts of Munsi Sazzad Hossain, accountant of the National Institute of Diseases of the Chest and Hospital (NIDCH), allowing a separate plea of the ACC.
Sazzad is accused of ignoring ACC notice for submitting wealth statement.
