Ex-NSI director Monirul sent to jail
A Dhaka court today sent former director (Border) of the National Security Intelligence (NSI) Commodore Monirul Islam to jail, rejecting his bail petition.
Investigative Officer (IO) of the case produced Monirul, who was arrested in a case filed over the killing of a teenager Bahadur Hossain Moni-in the capital during the anti-discrimination movement, before the court after expiry of three-day remand and appealed to send him to jail.
After hearing arguments from both sides, Magistrate Md Mosharraf Hossain rejected the bail petition and sent him to jail.
Earlier, former NSI director Monirul Islam was arrested from the Kotwali Police Station area on 9 October. The next day, a Dhaka court placed him on a three-day remand after hearing.
According to the case, Bahadur Hossain Moni was shot dead while he was crossing the street in front of Shahzadpur Primary School at Pragati Sarani under Gulshan Police Station on 19 July during the Anti-discrimination Student Movement.
Later, his father Abu Zafar received a mobile phone call from an unknown person and got information that a teenager was lying on the road hit by bullets.
Abu Zafar along with locals took him to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital where on-duty doctors declared him dead.
Later, Abu Zafar filed a case at Gulshan Police Station on 30 September.
