HC asks BRTA to increase vehicle fitness testing centres

The High Court has directed Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) to increase the number of vehicle fitness testing centres within the next two months to monitor whether unfit vehicles are still running on the road.
The High Court bench of Justice JBM Hasan and Justice Khairul Alam passed the order after hearing a rule on Wednesday.
Advocate Tanvir Ahmed appeared for the petition.

"About four million vehicles commute on the country's roads. The numbers of fitness testing centers in Bangladesh are insufficient in proportion with this huge number of cars to monitor their condition. I have raised this issue in the court," advocate Tanvir said.
Earlier on August 20, Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) issued a notification saying - from now on, no fitness fees shall be charged on a motor vehicle owned and exclusively used by a wounded freedom fighter, awarded freedom fighter, widow of martyred freedom fighter and widow of a wounded deceased or awarded deceased freedom fighter.
