HC asks BSTI to test milk at 4 labs
The HC also asked the BSTI what steps it had taken in the wake of the two test reports on milk recently prepared by Dhaka University researchers.
The High Court (HC) on Sunday asked the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) to test packaged milk of all the 14 companies, approved by the institute, at four laboratories within a week.
The laboratories are Institute of Public Health (IPH), International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (ICDDRB), Feed and Food Safety Laboratory under Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute, and Bangladesh Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (BCSIR).
The HC also asked the BSTI what steps it had taken in the wake of the two test reports on milk recently prepared by Dhaka University researchers.

The latest report, published by Professor ABM Faroque who is the immediate past director of Dhaka University Biomedical Research Centre, again claimed that antibiotics, detergent as well as other forms of unsafe materials had been found in pasteurised milk.
The court asked the BSTI to inform how long they would need to develop the laboratory and parameters to detect antibiotics in milk.
The HC bench of Justice Syed Rifaat Ahmed and Justice Md Iqbal Kabir Lytton passed the order.
Petitioner’s lawyer Barrister Aneek R Haque and BSTI lawyer Barrister Sarkar MR Hassan attended the hearing.
The latest and second research was done on 10 samples of pasteurised and non-pasteurised milk of different companies.
In June, Dhaka University’s Department of Pharmacy and Biomedical Research Centre claimed that they had detected the presence of antibiotics and detergent in milk.
