The High Court (HC), on Sunday, asked the mayors of two city corporations (Dhaka North and Dhaka South) to take measures to contain further spread of Dengue and Chikungunya among the city dwellers within 24 hours.
Justice Tariqul Hakim and Justice Md Suhrawardy gave the directive on the basis of reports published on various national newspapers.
The HC issued an order, as well, to the city corporations to submit reports on the matter by July 22, elaborating on the steps taken to curb outbreak of the mosquito-borne diseases.
The order was issued to mayors and chief executive officers of Dhaka North and Dhaka South, health secretary, LGRD secretary, and director general of the directorate general of health services (DGHS).
“Inaction of the concerned authorities is the reason for the outbreak,” observed the HC.

According to the DGHS data, over 1,900 people have been hospitalised during the first 13 days of July, and at least 11 people died of dengue infections this year.
