HC scraps writ seeking withdrawal of Saint Martin's travel restrictions
The High Court (HC) today dismissed a writ petition challenging the validity of the government's decision not to allow more than 2,000 tourists per day to visit Saint Martin's Island, among other restrictions, to protect the island's environment.
A High Court division bench of Justice Fahmida Quader and Justice Mubina Asaf passed the order after holding a hearing, Deputy Attorney General Mahfuz Bin Eusuf told newsmen.
Abdul Malek, a resident of the island, filed the plea on 18 November.
Earlier on 28 October, the government asked officials concerned, including Cox's Bazar deputy commissioner, to implement a set of decisions to tackle uncontrolled tourism and use of single used plastic in the island.
