ICT sets 6 April for submitting probe report in Jatrabari genocide case
Two accused - former Jatrabari police OC Abul Hossain and former assistant commissioner of DMP's Jatrabari zone Tanjil Ahmed – out of the total six in the case were produced before the court for today's hearing
The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) today (30 January) set 6 April for submitting the probe report in a genocide and crimes against humanity case filed over crimes committed in the Jatrabari area during the student-led July-August mass uprising.
The three-member tribunal led by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mozumder passed the order, granting a time plea filed by the prosecution.
"Today was fixed for submitting the probe report in the case ICT BD 5/2024. But we sought two months to submit the report. Allowing our plea, the tribunal set 6 April for the report submission," Prosecutor BM Sultan Mahmud said.
He also said two accused - former Jatrabari Police Station OC Abul Hossain and former assistant commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Jatrabari zone Tanjil Ahmed - out of the total six were produced before the court for today's hearing.
Meanwhile, the ICT also allowed two separate pleas filed by Prosecutor Gazi MH Tamim regarding the seizure of different documents.
Prosecutor Gazi Mizanul Islam, Abdus Subhan Tarafdar and Saimum Reza were present during today's hearing.
Jatrabari, the capital's major entry point, turned into a battlefield claiming hundreds of lives of protesters during the July-August mass uprising that ultimately toppled Sheikh Hasina's nearly 16 years of autocratic regime.
Members of law enforcement agencies and Awami League cadres carried out some of the most barbaric crimes in the area to subdue the students' movement there.
