Minni walks out of jail
Minni came out of the prison, holding her father’s hand
Ayesha Siddiqua Minni walked out of Barguna jail on bail Tuesday afternoon. She was arrested on July 17 in connection with the Rifat Shorif murder case.
“She walked out of the district prison around 4:33pm on bail,” said Mahbubul Bari Aslam, one of her lawyers, adding that Minni’s father Mozammel Hossain Kishor and other relatives were present at the time.
Minni came out of the prison, holding her father’s hand. Subsequently, they headed for their residence in an ambulance.
Bystanders crowded the court premise, as the news of her release spread. Police were on alert to avert any untoward incident.
Earlier on the day, Barguna court received the bail order from Dhaka. A copy of the order was later sent to Barguna jail.
The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, on Monday, upheld the High Court’s order, granting bail to Minni in her husband Rifat Shorif’s murder case. On August 29, the High Court (HC) granted bail to the widow on condition that she would not open her mouth to the media regarding anything that pertains to the case.
A video footage of Rifat’s murder on 26 June went viral in the social media. Minni was seen trying to save her husband. The assassins chopped the youth to death in broad daylight, which resulted in uproar in the social media, drawing widespread attention.
Abdul Halim Dulal, Rifat’s father, subsequently filed a case with Minni as the main witness. However, the incident took a surprising turn, as the father-in-law eventually started pointing his finger at Minni, saying that she had been involvement in the murder of his son.
Nearly after three weeks of Munni’s arrest, police also claimed that she had been involved in the murder of her husband.
As the Senior Judicial Magistrate and Barguna District and Session Judge’s Court had turned down two separate bail pleas of Munni, her lawyers, as the last resort, turned to the High Court with the bail plea.
