Provita Group MD, family banned from leaving country over Tk173cr loan default
Bank Asia's Khatunganj branch filed the case on 12 November 2023 to recover Tk173 crore laon
The Chattogram Money Loan Court has prohibited Provita Group Managing Director Nurun Nabi Bhuiyan, his wife Sulekha Ibrahim, and their son Ridwanul Haque Bhuiyan from leaving the country in a loan default case.
Judge Mujahidur Rahman of the court issued the ruling today (8 January) responding to an application filed by the Bank Asia, the court's bench assistant Rezaul Karim confirmed TBS.
He said Bank Asia's Khatunganj branch filed the case on 12 November 2023 to recover Tk173 crore laon.
On 26 November last year, Bank Asia filed a petition to restrict the defendants' travel and confiscate their passports to prevent their departure without court approval.
The court ordered the defendants to appear in court with their passports on 28 January.
An official of Bank Asia, wishing anonymity, said Provita Group, encompassing companies like Provita Feed, Provita Breeders, Provita Chicks, and Provita Hatchery, has failed to repay Tk173 crore loan to the bank.
Additionally, the officer said other banks are also owed money by the Provita Group.
Nurunnabi Bhuiyan, formerly based in Chattogram, now conducts his business operations from Dhaka.
