Recruiter jailed over migration fraud
The recruiting agency has been running a social media campaign to lure the targets
A mobile court of the expatriates' welfare and overseas employment ministry has jailed and fined a recruiting agency owner over cheating migration aspirants to Canada and European countries.
The mobile court held Anisur Rahman – owner of recruiting agency Active Visa Advisor – from Dhaka's Mirpur area Wednesday. Anisur was sentenced to 45-day imprisonment and fined Tk1 lakh as he confessed to the crime.
Earlier, the mobile court with the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and police raided the office of Active Visa Advisor at Mirpur-1 and seized contract papers, medical certificates and computers.
Ruhul Quddus, deputy secretary of the ministry who led the mobile court, said they received complaints against the recruiter that it had been swindling people by promising jobs and accommodation in Canada and Europe.
He said the fraud recruiting agency has been running a social media campaign to lure the migration aspirants.
