Regent’s Shahed on 7-day fresh remand in embezzlement case
Shahed put on remand for embezzling from Padma Bank
A Dhaka court has granted a seven-day fresh remand for Regent Hospital chairman Md Shahed alias Shahed Karim in a case of money embezzlement from Padma Bank (formerly known as Farmers Bank).
Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge KM Imrul Kayes granted the remand after a hearing on Monday.
On Thursday, the Anti-Corruption Commission's deputy assistant director Mohammad Shahjahan Miraj (investigating officer) applied for a 10-day remand in a case for allegedly embezzling Tk1 crore from Padma Bank. August 10 had been fixed for the remand hearing in Shahed's presence.

Earlier, the anti-graft commission filed another case against four people including Shahed on allegations of embezzling Tk1.51 crore from NRB Bank Ltd.
Shahed had absconded since a case was filed against him for issuing fake Covid-19 test reports in Regent Hospital.
However, as a part of investigating Shahed's illegal assets, the Criminal Investigation Department issued letters to 26 organisations asking for information about him.
On July 7, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) closed down Regent Hospital's head office in the capital, and its two branches in Uttara and in Mirpur, on charges of issuing fake Covid-19 certificates and conducting other misdeeds.
According to a RAB intelligence report, Regent Hospital collected samples from at least 10,000 people. Of them, only 4,200 got authentic Covid-19 test certificates and the rest were fake.
On July 26, a Dhaka court placed Regent Group Chairman Shahed Karim on 28-day remand in four cases of fraud.
