SC upholds ex-SP Babul Akter’s bail in Mitu murder case
The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) today (4 December) upheld a High Court order that allowed bail to former superintendent of police (SP) Babul Akter in a case lodged over the murder of his wife Mahmuda Khanam Mitu.
Appellate Division Judge-in-Chamber Justice Md Rezaul Haque issued "no order" after holding hearing on an appeal filed by Mitu's father Mosharraf Hossain.
Lawyer Mahbubr Rahman moved for the petitioner and Advocate Mohammad Shishir Manir represented Babul in the hearing.
Earlier on 27 November, a High Court division bench of Justice Md Atoar Rahman and Justice Md Ali Reza granted Babul six-month interim bail.
The court on that day also issued a rule, asking as to why Babul should not be granted permanent bail in the case.
On 13 March 2023, Chattogram 3rd Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Jasim Uddin framed charges against seven, including Mitu's husband Babul Akter, in the sensational murder case.
