Trial against Yunus for violation of labour law can continue: HC
The High Court today issued a ruling saying the complaint against four people including Grameen Telecom Chairman Muhammad Yunus is valid. As a result, there is no obstacle to continuing the case against Dr Yunus in the judicial court, lawyers said.
An HC bench of Justice SM Kuddus Zaman and Justice Shahed Nuruddin gave the verdict on Tuesday (8 August).
On 6 June, the court formed a complaint against Nobel laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus, Grameen Telecom MD Md Ashraful Hasan, Director Nurjahan Begum and Md Shahjahan.
Dhaka Labour Court Judge Begum Sheikh Marina Sultana framed the complaint and ordered to begin trial. Dr Yunus appealed to the High Court on 21 June to cancel the order of the Labour Court.
On 23 July, the High Court issued a ruling asking why the complaint against Dr Muhammad Yunus should not be cancelled in the case of violation of labour law.
Yunus's lawyer, Barrister Abdullah Al Mamun, told The Business Standard they will appeal challenging the verdict given by the High Court.
