Why increased entry fees at river ports not illegal: HC
The court asked to explain within four weeks
The High Court today issued a ruling asking authorities concerned to explain why the decision to increase entry fees at river ports should not be declared illegal.
The bench of justices FRM Nazmul Ahsan and KM Kamrul Kader issued the ruling following a writ petition that challenged a decision to increase the entry fees.
The court asked Shipping secretary, Finance secretary, Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority chairman, secretary, director (finance), joint directors, deputy director (port) and Dhaka river port (Sadarghat) joint director to explain within four weeks.
Earlier, Supreme Court lawyer Mohammad Abu Taleb filed the writ on October 26 after BIWTA issued a circular increasing the entry fees at the terminals from Tk5 to Tk10.
