2 ex-RAB officials arrested in enforced disappearance case sent to jail
Two former officials of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have been sent to jail after they were shown arrested in a case filed with the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) over incidents of enforced disappearances and torture.
The accused are former superintendent of police (SP) Mohiuddin Farooqi and former additional superintendent of police of the Barishal Range, Alep Uddin, confirmed ICT Prosecutor Gazi MH Tamim to reporters.
They were presented before the ICT today (2 December), where the judge ordered showing them arrested in the case and subsequent imprisonment.
The tribunal also directed they be brought back to court on 20 February.
Gazi MH Tamim said, "They have been accused of enforced disappearance. Victims who were subjected to these incidents have come forward with their complaints. Those who were forcibly disappeared were subjected to severe torture."
"The tribunal has instructed that the progress of the investigation be reported," he said.
Earlier, on 28 November, the ICT had ordered the two former RAB officials to appear before the tribunal in connection with the case filed over allegations of enforced disappearance and subsequent torture.
