245 activists of AL, affiliated orgs arrested in Ctg since 1 February
The latest arrests were made by the CMP in an ongoing special operation launched on 1 February. The nationwide ‘Operation Devil Hunt’ led by joint forces has not yet started in CMP jurisdiction

The Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) arrested another 19 members of the Awami League, its youth wing Jubo League and its banned student wing Chhatra League in the last 24 hours from 2pm on Saturday to 2pm on Sunday in the ongoing special operations.
With the latest addition, a total of 245 members of AL, Jubo League, Chhatra League and the party's other affiliate organisations have been arrested during this special operation, launched on 1 February to apprehend the accused in cases filed over attacks on protesters during the July-August uprising last year, said CMP Additional Deputy Commissioner Mahmuda Begum.
The latest arrestees have been accused in multiple cases, including attacks on student protestors during the Anti-Discrimination Movement, violations of the Special Powers Act, and offences under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
The Public Relations and Media wing of CMP confirmed this through a press release on Sunday (9 February) afternoon.
Speaking about the special operation with The Business Standard, ADC Mahmuda said, "The CMP launched a special operation on 1 February, which is still going on. The nationwide 'Operation Devil Hunt' led by joint forces has not yet started in CMP jurisdiction."
Among the latest arrests, Bandar Police Station apprehended one identified as Md Maidul Islam, 35, reads the CMP press statement.
The Panchlaish Police Station arrested two individuals identified as Md Zahidul Islam alias Roni, 19, and Shahidul Alam, 27.
The Sadarghat Police Station arrested one identified as Shamsu Alam alias Alam, 30.
The Kotwali Police Station arrested two identified as Jahangir Alam, 45, and former Patiya Upazila Awami League President Priyotosh Chowdhury, 62.
The Khulshi Police Station arrested three individuals identified as Imamul Haque, 28, Md Pavel, 30, and Md Moniruzzaman Riyad, 39.
The Akbarshah Police Station arrested two individuals identified as Md Sumon, 29, and Md Tamzid Hossain, 21.
The EPZ Police Station arrested Md Naim Gazi, 21 and Md Kochir Uddin Liton, 38.
The Chandgaon Police Station arrested former central executive committee members of Chhatra League Ishtiaq Wasif, 25, and Rasel Ahmed, 38.
Bakalia Police Station arrested Md Jewel, 30, Md Ismail Hossain, 36, and Mohammad Idris, 36 while the Karnaphuli Police Station arrested Haji Md Ibrahim Sharif, 49, president of Ward- 4 Awami League in Juldha.
CMP officials said further investigations are ongoing, and the arrested individuals will be produced before the court for legal proceedings.
