Rancon Motors Limited, the official distributor of Mercedes-Benz in Bangladesh, has brought in the G580 Edition One, making history as the first electric G-Wagon in the country.
The launch event took place on 8th February at Mercedes-Benz Bangladesh's authorised dealership in the capital's Tejgaon area. The event started with Imran Zaman, Divisional Director of Mercedes Benz, giving a speech alongside Bangladeshi racing driver Avik Anwar. There was a quiz round about the new car with gift hampers if anyone got the right answer, and Bass Baba Sumon's guest appearance.
According to Imran, Bangladesh was the first country to receive the new G580 in South-Asia. During his speech, he also hinted at potential electric Maybach models, a more premium lineup of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, coming down the line.

For more than four decades, the Mercedes-Benz G-Class, or G-Wagon, has been one of the most recognizable and respected SUVs in the world. What started as a rugged military vehicle in the 1970s quickly became a symbol of luxury, adventure, and durability. Over the years, it has maintained its iconic boxy design while evolving with cutting-edge technology, making it a favorite among celebrities, off-road enthusiasts, and Petrolheads alike.
However, don't let the "electric" part fool you though—this SUV is still every bit a G-Wagon. With 587 horsepower and 1164 Nm of torque, it can go from 0-100 km/h in just 4.7 seconds. That's sports car-level speed in an off-road-ready luxury SUV!
Stepping inside the G 580 Edition One is an experience in itself. The interior is wrapped in full Nappa leather and loads of Carbon Fibre, offering the comfort and craftsmanship that Mercedes-Benz is known for. But what makes this model truly special are its advanced driving features—G-Roar, G-Turn, and G-Steering. These ensure that whether you're cruising through the city or tackling tough terrain, the electric G-Wagon delivers an exhilarating and effortless ride.
The electric Mercedes-Benz G 580 packs serious off-road tech, including G-Turn, which lets it spin in place like a tank, and G-Roll, a regenerative braking system for smoother descents. G-Steer enhances off-road handling, while G-Roar provides an artificial engine sound to maintain its signature presence. Smarter, quieter, and quicker, the G 580 stays true to its G-Wagon roots—just with an electric twist.

Three days after the initial event, on 11th February, Mercedes-Benz showcased how the G-Turn works, taking its demonstration to the next level. In a first-of-its-kind event, they secured permission from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) to temporarily close Gulshan-2 Circle at 3 AM. With the streets cleared, Avik Anwar, Bass Baba Sumon, and Kashfia Arfa—one of Bangladesh's top female racing drivers—put on a show, each taking the G 580 around the circle and executing flawless donuts
