3 caught with 11 kg worth of gold in Jashore
During interrogation the arrestees confessed to transporting the gold bars from Shyamoli, Dhaka to Benapole for trafficking into India
Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) intercepted and arrested three people from Natunhat area of Jessore on Monday, January 20.
A total of 94 gold bars, weighing in 10 kg 935 gm was found after searching the car the arrestees were traveling in.
The arrestees are: Jahidul Islam, 38, son of Abdul Jabbar of Durgapur, Md Yakub Ali, 28, son of Anarul Islam of Amla village from Sharsa Upazila, Jashore and Md Dilwar Hossain ,23, son of Monir Hossain, from Daudkandi in Cumilla.
"As a part of an anti-smuggling operation, the BGB memebers intercepted a private car in front of Natunhat brick kiln on Jashore-Benapole Highway around 3pm on Monday," said Lt Col Md Selim Reza, PSC, commanding officer of BGB 49 battalion.
During interrogation, the arrestees confessed to transporting the gold bars from Shyamoli, Dhaka to Benapole for trafficking into India.
According to the BGB, the value of the seized gold amounts to Tk6.60 crore.
