'Chief recruiter' of militant outfit Jamatul Ansar held with 2 other members: DB
Footage of training found on their phones
Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police has arrested three members of the banned militant outfit Jamatul Ansar Fil Hindal Sharqiya.
One of the arrested is Amir Hossain alias Rana Sheikh, unit manager of Alpha Islamic Life Insurance. He used to serve as the group's chief recruiter, said DB officials.
The other two are identified as Mashiur Rahman alias Milon Talukdar and Habibur Rahman.
The men were arrested during a drive at Dhaka's Kalyanpur and Gabtoli areas on Monday, DB chief Harun-or-Rashid said in a press briefing today.
Three smartphones and two button phones were seized during the raid, he said, adding that video footage of training was found on the phones.
Out of 53 members of the militant groups, 49 members have been arrested so far, said the DB chief.
Rana has sent three recruits to Bandarban to be trained by the hill tract-based insurgent organisation Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF).
Mashiur Rahman went to Bandarban in 2021 to undergo a two-year armed training programme with KNF, while a new member named Habibur Rahman was preparing to go to Bandarban for similar training.
The DB chief said former and fugitive members of banned militant outfits Harkatul Jihad, Ansar Al Islam and Jamaatul Mujahideen formed Jamatul Ansar Fil Hindal Sharqiya.
"In exchange for money, KNF trained Sharqiya members in survival tactics, unarmed combat, handling assault rifles, manufacturing and using explosive devices, and close-quarters combat," said Harun-or-Rashid.
