Three Transcom Group officials placed on 3-day remand, bail cancelled
A Dhaka court on Sunday (21 April) cancelled the bail and granted three-day remand each for three officials of Transcom Group in two separate cases of money embezzlement, occupying property and handing over company shares illegally.
The three remanded officials are Transcom Group Director of Corporate Finance Abdullah Al Mamun, Manager Abu Yusuf Md Siddik, and Assistant Company Secretary Mohammed Mossadeq. They have been on bail in these cases.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Rashidul Alam passed the remand order following a plea of the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), Sub-Inspector Shah Alam, general registration officer of the court, confirmed the media.
Earlier in the day, Investigating Officer Inspector Md Kamal Hossain of the PBI pleaded to place Abdullah Al Mamun on 10-day remand in the case filed with Gulshan police station, and the other two accused on seven-day remand in another case filed with the same police station.
The investigating officer said the accused should be remanded for interrogation in the interests of fair investigation.
After a hearing, the court placed the three accused on three-day remand each.
Shahzreh Huq, daughter of the late chairman and founder of Transcom Group, Latifur Rahman, filed three separate cases with the Gulshan police station on 21 February. The PBI later arrested the five accused in the three cases.
Shahzreh, the youngest of the two surviving offspring of the iconic businessman, filed three cases on 21 February.
She accused her mother Shahnaz Rahman, the current chairman of the group, and older sister Simeen Rahman, the current CEO, of breaching trust, committing fraud, and forging documents to deny her and her deceased brother, Arshad Waliur Rahman, their "rightful" portion of the family's wealth, claimed to be worth Tk10,000 crore.
Eight high officials of the group were accused in the three cases. Police, in prompt action, arrested five officials accused of colluding with Simeen and Shahnaz Rahman on the same day. Later, all accused got bail in the cases.
