50,000 counterfeit tea packets seized in Ctg
The Bangladesh Tea Board has seized around 50,000 packets of counterfeit tea from a tea packaging warehouse in Chattogram.
A mobile court led by Mohammad Ruhul Amin, executive magistrate and deputy secretary of the Bangladesh Tea Board, recovered the tea packets from M/s Ainan Enterprise in PB Supermarket near the city's Jail Road on Monday (3 September), the board said in a press release.
The logo of BSTI and names of 40 fake brands have been used in the tea packets.
"Some unscrupulous traders are making tea packets of fake brands and selling them in the name of fake companies and addresses, creating a risk of substandard tea reaching consumers across the country," said Ruhul Amin.
"The tea board is conducting mobile courts across the country to stop irregularities in the tea business. Such drives will continue in the future as well," added the official.
He was accompanied by Tea Board's Marketing Officer Ahsan Habib and Assistant Director Abdullah Al Borhan, and Kotwali police, during the drive.
The mobile court also ordered the shop to remain closed until further instructions.
