ACC sues ex-civil surgeon among nine for embezzling Tk17cr

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Tuesday filed a case against nine people, including former Satkhira civil surgeon, for their alleged involvement in misappropriating Tk17 crore, on the pretext of buying medical equipment for Sadar upazila health complex.
Main accused Dr Tauhidur Rahman, former Satkhira civil surgeon, in collaboration with eight others, reportedly created fake documents to call a tender for procuring different equipment, according to the ACC.
They gobbled up the amount through three fake bills, even though there were no demand orders for buying any apparatus.
The accused include AKM Fazlul Haque, storekeeper of Satkhira Civil Surgeon Office, Md Anwar Hossain, accountant of the same office, and Md Jaher Uddin Sarkar, owner of Bengal Scientific and Surgical Co.
Other persons involved in the embezzlement are Md Abdus Sattar Sarkar, Ahsan Habib, Asadur Rahman, all are hailing from Fulbari upazila in Dinajpur, and Kaji Abu Bakar Siddique, resident at Madaripur, and former engineer AHM Abdus Kuddus of Dhaka.
