Another arrested in Chakaria gang rape case
Prime accused Tajul confessed in court to his involvement in the rape
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) haave arrested another individual in connection with the gang-rape of a teenager in Chakaria of Cox's Bazar.
The arrestee is Mohammed Faruk, 27, son of Gias Uddin from Tutiyakhali area.
Mohammed Kamruzzaman, senior assistant director (law and media) of RAB 15 and additional superintendent of police, said Faruk was arrested this morning (9 January) in the Kaiyarbil area of Chakaria over his alleged involvement in the rape.
The arrested youth has reportedly confessed to being involved in the incident during preliminary questioning.
Additionally, prime accused Tajul Islam has confessed in court to his involvement in the gang-rape.
Tajul told the court that he and six others forcibly raped the teenager.
Kamruzzaman said on the night of 5 January, a teenager was gang-raped near Badarkhali bridge, which connects Chakaria and Maheshkhali.
Following the incident, various social groups organised human chains and torch processions across Cox's Bazar, demanding the swift arrest and punishment of the rapists.
On Tuesday night, the victim's family filed a case against six individuals, including Tajul, at Chakaria Police Station.
"Based on the victim's account, her father filed a case against six individuals. Earlier, out of the eight suspects detained by the police, the victim identified four as being involved. The police presented these individuals in court yesterday (8 January)" said investigation officer and Sub-Inspector Mohammad Yasin of Chakaria Police Station.
