Khulna councillor shot dead by motorbike-riding gunman near Cox’s Bazar beach

A Khulna ward councillor has been shot dead near the Cox's Bazar beach by an unknown motorbike-riding gunman earlier tonight.
According to an NID card found in the victim's dress, his name is Golam Rabbani, son of Md Golam Akbar, a resident of Deyana Uttar Para at Daulatpur under the Khulna City Corporation (KCC).
A ward councillor of the KCC, Rabbani has been in hiding since the fall of the Awami League government on 5 August last year, Cox's Bazar Police's Additional Superintendent Md Jasim Uddin Chowdhury told The Business Standard.
The murder took place near the Sugandha point of the beach at around 9:00pm on Thursday (9 January), he said.
"A gunman came riding a motorcycle out of the blue and shot him. The bullet went through one side of the head and exited through the other. The body is being kept in the morgue of Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital," said Jasim.
