Call record related to arson attacks being analysed: Monirul
“We have received a call record of buses set on fire in several places in the capital yesterday. The call record is being analyzed,” he told journalists at Bangladesh Crime Reporters Association Office
Additional Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) and Head of Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Unit (CTTC) Monirul Islam today said experts are analyzing call records related to the arson attacks.
"We have received a call record of buses set on fire in several places in the capital yesterday. The call record is being analyzed," he told journalists at Bangladesh Crime Reporters Association Office.
Bangladesh Crime Reporters Association organised children drawing competition at Nasrul Hamid Auditorium of Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU).
The deputy inspector general of police said that work was being underway to find out identities of those who were involved in the arson attacks.
He said the call record will serve as important evidence to investigate the cases, adding, "There is a similarity between the call record and the fire incidents."
Responding to a question the CTTC chief said the incidents that took place in 2014-15 were similar to the sudden fire attack on buses in several places in the capital yesterday.
However, police are investigating the arson attacks, he added.
"City dwellers were thundered with the sudden arson attacks on buses. We are working to find out who are involved in these incidents," Monirul said.
Replying to another question he said, "Nine buses have been set on fire, while eight cases were filed with five police stations. So far 18 suspected have been arrested."
He said drives are continuing to arrest culprits, who were involved in the arson attacks.
The BNP and Chhatra Dal staged a procession in Bashundhara area, the DMP additional commissioner said adding that people caught two while vandalising motor vehicles.
It might be mentioned that by-elections to Dhaka-18 and Sirajganj-1 parliamentary constituencies were held on November 12, he said.
Centering the by-polls, Swachchasebak Dal and Chhatra Dal held protest processions at Gulistan-Paltan area at around 12:30 pm alleging vote rigging, Monirul said.
Within a couple of hours, a total of five buses were set on fire at Gulistan, Shahbagh, Motijheel, Secretariat and Shahjahanpur areas and later, miscreants also set fire to three buses at Nayabazar, Karwan Bazar and Bhatara areas, he said.
