Case filed against 5 AL men for cutting off woman’s hair in Sirajganj
The accused are ward Awami League president Abdur Rashid, Munsur, 38, Abdus Salam, 45, Nasir Uddin, 40 and Shahidul Islam, 32, all belonging to Gozail village
A case was filed against five local Awami League men including a ward-unit president for cutting off the hair of a housewife over a false slander in Ullapara upazila.
The accused are ward Awami League president Abdur Rashid, Munsur, 38, Abdus Salam, 45, Nasir Uddin, 40 and Shahidul Islam, 32, all belonging to Gozail village.
Meer Shahin Shah Parvez, officer-in-charge of Ullapara Police Station, said the accused stopped Bilkis Khatun, wife of Jahangir Hosssain of Gozail village on her way home and cut her hair over a false slander on November 25.
The woman on December 2, filed a case against the five including the Awami League leader with Ullapara Police Station, OC added.
Meanwhile, a video clip of the incident went viral on social media where the five men were seen gleefully cutting off all the hair of the victim, considered an embarrassing insult for women in the social context of Bangladesh
Contacted, Abdur Rashid, the most senior Awami League leader accused, told UNB that "I didn't cut the woman's hair. A faction has influenced to file the case against me as a conspiracy."
All the accused remain outside police custody.
