Chevron Hospital pharmacies in Ctg fined Tk2 lakh for storing, selling expired medicines
The Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) has imposed a fine of Tk2.04 lakh on Chevron Hospital pharmacy, located at Panchlaish area in Chattogram, for selling expired medicines and overcharging customers.
On Monday (1 October), DNCRP officials of the region conducted inspections at two pharmacies on the 1st and 5th floors of the hospital.
Faiz Ullah, deputy director of the Chattogram divisional office, said the Chevron Pharmacy on the 1st floor was storing a significant quantity of expired medicines for selling them. The pharmacy was also selling drugs at inflated prices. It was fined Tk1 lakh.
In response to a written complaint about overpricing at the same pharmacy, an additional fine of Tk4,000 was imposed, with Tk1,000 to be awarded to the complainant as an incentive for reporting the violation, the official said.
During the inspection, the pharmacy on the 5th floor was also found storing expired medicines, including cough syrups, antibiotics. This resulted in a separate fine of Tk1 lakh.
